1. Information Collection and Use
RentShare accesses your connected email accounts (Gmail or Microsoft Outlook) solely to detect and extract utility billing amounts (such as electricity, gas, water, and internet bills). All email processing and bill calculations occur locally on your device. RentShare does not store, transmit, or sell your personal email data or email content to external servers or third parties.
2. Google API Services & Limited Use Policy
RentShare's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Your email data is used strictly to provide utility bill detection and automated roommate bill distribution features within the app.
3. Data Protection Mechanisms
We take the security of your Google user data very seriously and implement industry-standard data protection mechanisms:
- Encryption in Transit: All communications between RentShare and Google API servers are encrypted using modern Transport Layer Security (TLS 1.2/1.3) protocols via HTTPS.
- On-Device Sandboxing: Email content and utility bill calculations are processed in memory and stored securely within the Android operating system's isolated application sandbox environment.
- Password Security: RentShare uses official OAuth 2.0 authentication tokens. Your Google Account password is never requested, accessed, or stored by the app.
4. Data Retention & Deletion Disclosures
We believe in strict data minimization and user control over personal data:
- Data Retention: RentShare retains extracted utility bill totals locally on your device only for as long as necessary to calculate and display your monthly roommate bill breakdowns. Email message bodies are processed in memory and are not stored permanently.
- User Data Deletion: You have full control to delete your data at any time:
- In-App / Device Deletion: You can clear all cached utility templates, participant data, and billing history at any time by navigating to your Android device's Settings > Apps > RentShare > Storage > Clear Data.
- Revoking Google Access: You can immediately revoke RentShare's access to your Google Account at any time by visiting Google Account Third-Party Access and removing "RentShare". Revoking access immediately invalidates all OAuth tokens.
5. Advertising & Google AdMob
The app displays advertisements powered by Google AdMob. Google AdMob may collect and process device identifiers, location data, and ad performance metrics to serve personalized or contextual ads. For more details on how Google handles advertising data, please review the Google Privacy Policy.
